Pregnancy and Chiropractic care

Pregnancy is such a wonderful time in a woman’s life. The growth of a child is nothing short of miraculous. Though some of the changes that take place in a woman’s body can be challenging to adapt to.

We want to keep the stress level low in moms. We used to think that cortisol and stress hormones did not cross the placenta, now we know that they do. Strategies to keep a mother’s stress level low are important.

Dyspepsia, also known as heartburn can be bothersome during pregnancy. There is recent research to suggest that chiropractic care can decrease dyspepsia or heartburn during pregnancy. As the tension and tone of joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments is optimised, then baby can assume a more optimal position in mother’s pelvis.

Optimal position of the baby in the pelvis can also be influenced by gentle care of mom’s sacroiliac joints and round ligaments. Getting ready for a vaginal birth is easiest if baby is in the head down position. Webster Analysis is a simple analysis and gentle release that has been shown to assist in optimal positioning of baby.

Decreasing lower back pain during pregnancy. Chiropractic care can help the sacroiliac joints to move in their best range of motion possible. This combined with analysis and gentle release of round ligaments, and lumbar vertebrae can help to decrease lower back pain during pregnancy.

Maternal comfort and better sleep can be helped by chiropractic care. Initial studies are showing that mom’s under chiropractic care reported more comfort, improved sleep and better energy levels. This can be really helpful for mothers who have older children, work outside or inside the home and social activities to attend.

Easier labor and shorter birth times has been shown in initial studies to be a benefit of receiving chiropractic care during pregnancy.
